Renovations and extensions that improve how a home works, feels, functions and connects. RGB Building delivers renovations and extensions across Sydney's Northern Beaches and North Shore, with Richard on site as both lead builder and site manager from the first day to handover. Every RGB project runs the same five stages, from first consultation through to handover.
Most homes on the Beaches and North Shore were built for a different era. Boxed-in rooms, kitchens closed off from living areas, and small openings that ignore the light and the outlook. Renovation work is about undoing that: reworking layouts, improving flow, and adding the space a family has outgrown.
Done properly, the finished result reads as one continuous piece of building, not an old house with new bits attached. That means tying new construction cleanly into the existing structure, matching levels and lines, and detailing the junctions so the join isn't the first thing you notice.
At Crown Rd in Queenscliff, we restored an early 1900s heritage frontage and built a contemporary extension behind it across three levels, pairing restored 100-year-old timber floorboards with heated polished concrete floors and floor-to-ceiling glazing. At Deepwater Rd in Castle Cove, removing the centre wall between the kitchen and dining, and replacing two small sliding doors with large ones on a new 7 metre beam, opened the whole rear of the home.

Renovating means working with what's already there. Older wiring, tired plumbing, structures that were built to a different standard, and the occasional surprise once a wall comes down. Every home is different, and no amount of planning removes that entirely.
What we can do is plan for it. We assess what's structurally possible before quoting, price the scope honestly rather than optimistically, and stage the work so you know what's happening and when. If something comes up during the build, you'll hear about it the same day, along with a clear recommendation and what it means for cost and program.
RGB purposely takes on a focused number of projects at any one time. That's a deliberate choice, and it keeps Richard hands-on across every build as both the lead builder and the on-site manager. You deal directly with the person running your project, which matters more on a renovation than almost anywhere else, because decisions come up on site and you need an answer from the person who's standing there.
Renovations also mean living around a building site, or moving out for a stretch. We keep you across the program so you can plan your life around the work rather than the other way around.

We are used to working as part of a wider team. For architects and designers, that means a builder who reads drawings properly, raises buildability and coordination issues early while there is still time to adjust, and protects the design intent through to completion. On renovation work, that also means flagging what the existing structure will and won't allow before the design is locked, rather than discovering it on site.
01 Consultation & Brief
We start by understanding the vision, the site and the way you want to live. If you already have an architect or designer, we work with them. If not, we can point you to trusted partners.
02 Design Coordination & Approvals
We coordinate design input for buildability and cost, and manage the approvals process so the project is properly prepared before work begins.
03 Planning & Transparent Quoting
Detailed, honest pricing with a realistic program. Scope, staging and trades are all confirmed before work begins.
04 Construction & Project Management
Hands-on site management and a trusted network of trades. Quality control and regular, clear communication run through the whole build.
05 Completion & Handover
Every detail is checked and every finish reviewed before we hand over a home that is ready to live in, with guidance and support at completion.
